The Big Cypress Preserve was established on October 11, 1974. It contains 720,567 acres and is located about 45 miles west of Miami, Florida. Much of the preserve is located along US Highway 41 which is also known as the Tamiami Trail. The preserve contains six campgrounds and numerous hiking trails. There are two visitor centers in the preserve: The Oasis Visitor Center and the Big Cypress Swamp Welcome Center. There are two scenic drives in the preserve which gives the visitor a chance to see more remote parts of the preserve than just those along US 41.
